$100,000 donation: Big boost for Riverwest Food Pantry

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A collaborative Lenten Almsgiving project by four Northeast side Catholic parishes has donated over $100,000 dollars to the Milwaukee’s Riverwest Food Pantry.

According to a press release, an anonymous donor gave a $50,000 lead gift and challenge grant.

Additionally, members of Old St. Mary’s, Three Holy Women, Our Lady of Divine Providence and Sts. Peter and Paul parishes raised more than $50,000 during the six-week Lenten season that ended on Easter Sunday.

“Countless parishioners gave generously because they know the importance of the work firsthand through their volunteer service at the pantry,” said Reverend Timothy Kitzke.

The pantry says donations will allow the non-profit food pantry to sustain and expand its service for impoverished families and individuals in Milwaukee’s Harambee and Riverwest neighborhoods.

The Riverwest Food Pantry also shares healthy recipes through cooking demonstrations during its weekly food distribution sessions.
