MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Saturday, April 26th Habitat for Humanity held its annual ReStore Donation Drive at Mayfair Mall.
According to Habitat for Humanity, Milwaukee’s ReStore is one of the largest fundraisers for Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity. It also prevents over one million pounds of usable materials from ending up in local landfills... EVERY year!
Jake Brandt is the marketing manager for the Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity ReStore's two locations, one Milwaukee the other in Wauwatosa.
"That's what we're all about, is reusing materials that are in good, gently used condition, that people no longer need, any more, and resell them to raise funds for Milwaukee Habitat For Humanity," said Brandt.
Effort is minimal if you're looking to donate because volunteers unload all of the items out of your car.
"Just reuse, recycle and help out your environment." said Ashley Lamar, volunteer.
The drive accepts almost anything that's resalable and recyclable.
"Cabinetry, appliances, lighting... the list just goes on, and on. Pretty much anything you can use to build, or furnish a house," said Brandt.
Rather than collecting at a landfill, these items are cleaned and conditioned before being offered for sale, at a discounted price, in a restore.
"And then, lastly, the proceeds from all these items go directly to benefit Habitat For Humanity builds, right here, in Milwaukee," said Brandt.
Donors will receive retailer incentives, random gifts, and a tax-deductible receipt.
Both ReStore locations are open to the public for shopping, and items are typically sold between 50-percent and 70-percent below retail value.
ReStore also offers weekly specials, coupons, and project ideas.
