Gear up: Kohl's hosts shopping spree for "Making Strides" walk

BROOKFIELD (WITI) -- Pink is Jennifer Ott's favorite color, but there's a reason behind it.

"I found my lump while I was breast-feeding my son and I had to wait for some things to happen physically before they could tell me truly what my diagnosis was," said Ott.

Ott learned she had stage two breast cancer.

"I had 2 surgeries, 12 weeks of chemo, 7 1/2 weeks of radiation, and now I can say that I am cancer free," said Ott.

Now Ott is celebrating her victory by participating in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.

To make sure she has the right clothes for the event, Ott is one of 50 survivors and top event participants invited to a Kohl's shopping spree.

"Amazing reactions. They are so happy that they got to shop and definitely get clothes for this weekend. They have socks, shoes, water bottles," said Kohl's Store Manager Jeannine McMahon.

While shopping, many of the women bonded through their shared experiences.

"To know that there is unity between breast cancer survivors I think is an important thing to know that you`re not alone and there is a lot of support," said Ott.

Each of the ladies had $250 to spend.

After picking out their new outfits, they're now ready to walk in a sea of pink.

"Because of the efforts of the American Cancer Society, because of the efforts of Kohl`s and other sponsors we have a family of survivors that will celebrate," said Ott.

The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk is Saturday, May 3rd at 10 a.m. at Veterans Park on Milwaukee's lakefront.
