FOND DU LAC (WITI)  — Fond du Lac Fire Department was dispatched to a reported apartment fire on N. Seymour Street early Friday morning, May 2nd.

Upon arrival, fire crews encountered heavy fire and smoke in a second story apartment of the structure.  The fire alarms were sounding, tenants were evacuating, so they assisted them and completed a search of the entire building.

All tenants escaped without injury.

Fire crews worked efficiently to extinguish the fire, but not before the apartment was severely damaged.

Four units of the structure have smoke, heat, and water damage.  Tenants were able to gather their necessary belongings before Red Cross assisted them with food and lodging.

The Fond du Lac Police Department assisted with traffic and scene control.  The Town of Fond du Lac, Lamartine, and Ripon Fire Departments assisted on scene.

Additional Fond du Lac Firefighters, Mt. Calvary, and Oakfield staffed the fire department to respond to additional emergency calls.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and the investigation will continue with assistance from the FDL Police Department and the State Fire Marshals Office.

The Fond du Lac Fire Department will canvass the area today to talk to residents about home fire safety.
