Community activist joins the effort to find missing John Moebs

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Friends and family have been coming to the city for the last week in search of missing John Moebs, and on Saturday night, May 10th a community activist is joining the effort.

Family and friends continue to search for any sign of John.

"We're out here on the river today to just look in the river, to look around to try to see under the docks and in between maybe by the boats, because if he had fallen in the river you know he may have been snagged on something," said Scott, brother of John.

Friends and family are canvassing the area they say John last used his cell phone. He went missing after a night of drinking.

His last text message came around 3:30 a.m. last Saturday morning, May 3rd when he contacted his girlfriend to tell her he was heading home and thought his nose might be broken.

A fight at some point during the night might have been the source of the comment about his nose.

"We believe that he was alone, that he was traveling on foot, and he began the night at Brother's. He definitely went to Red Rock Saloon and that may have been the site of the second altercation," said Scott.

John had gone to Water St. with his girlfriend, but Scott says the two got separated when John was thrown out of Brother's.

Scott, along with others, returned to Water St. Friday night, May 9th in hopes someone may have remembered seeing him the week before.

"The bouncers recognized my brother, they remembered seeing him walk by and said that he looked drunk," said Scott.

Scott says they didn't get any concrete leads Friday night, and on Saturday, he was joined by Christopher Schwartz, a man who has helped search for other missing people in the past.

"Just imagine if you had somebody missing in your family, would you want somebody to come out and help you? I bet you would," said Schwartz.

Despite the fact that a week has already passed, Scott says he's not giving up hope yet.

"We've always had each others backs and I'm going to have his back until the end of this thing," said Scott.

The family is still looking for anyone who may have memories of John from last week. They're hoping someone out there can help them pinpoint his final location.

Moebs is described as male, white, about 5'7" tall, 140 pounds, blue eyes, and short brown hair. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black pin-striped short sleeve button-up shirt, and black shoes. He also has small dragon tattoos on each shoulder.
