Officials say the shooting happened shortly after 2:30 a.m. They say the 47-year-old owner of the bar, Herman Paige, is the victim.

The MPD investigation indicates that the bar owner had engaged in a verbal altercation with the suspect that at one point became physical. The suspect then left, but returned with a handgun which he used to fatally shoot the victim.

Witnesses tell FOX6 News the dispute began when the bar owner tried telling a couple of patrons they had to leave.

"He tried to tell them they had to go, and after they didn't want to leave freely -- they tried to get physical with him, and he got physical back with them, and they lost a round -- and they ran and got a gun," the witness told FOX6 News.

Multiple witnesses remained on scene and are cooperating with investigators.

Paige's family members were set to gather at the bar on Sunday for a Mother's Day meal -- but instead, family members gathered in grief and disbelief.

Paige's daughter, Naquiettia Paige says her father loved the blues.

"He loved his music. He loved it. This is the music he listened to. I still can't believe it. I hope they find (the suspect). Love you so much and rest in heaven Daddy," Paige said.
