CHARGED AS AN ADULT: Teen accused in Grafton "shots fired" incident
OZAUKEE COUNTY (WITI) -- FOX6 News has learned 16-year-old Joseph Torres -- the Grafton teen accused of firing shots at his sister's boyfriend and then disappearing -- leading to a days-long search by law enforcement officials is now being charged as an adult.
Torres faces two charges -- including first degree recklessly endangering safety (a felony charge) and possession of a dangerous weapon by a person under the age of 18 (a misdemeanor).
Court documents say Torres was staying at a home on Lakefield Road in the Town of Grafton with a legal guardian and his two sisters.
Police responded to that home on April 21st for a report of a domestic violence incident in which shots were fired.
Ozaukee County officials say Carlos Garcia -- the boyfriend of Torres' sister, showed up at the home on the morning of April 21st.
“The boyfriend, who is Carlos Garcia, went to the residence on Lakefield Road for his children. It was a custody exchange. He ended up breaking down the door and that’s where the domestic violence incident ensued after that,” Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Lt. Christy Knowles said.
Court documents say the dispute moved outside to the area surrounding Garcia's vehicle.
The documents say Torres' sister grabbed onto Garcia's vehicle as he was trying to drive away.
The documents say Torres came out of the house with a gun, and shot at Garcia "four to five times" -- according to Garcia.
Law enforcement officials responded to the scene and could not locate Torres. A days-long search was initiated.
The Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call on Saturday morning, April 26th saying someone walking on Covered Bridge Rd. matched the description of Joseph Torres.
According to officials, the call came in at 9:46 a.m. from Mario Valdes, a retired Mequon Police officer and current director of security at Concordia University in Mequon.
Valdes spotted Torres on Covered Bridge Rd. near Pleasant Valley Rd. in the Town of Cedarburg, and detained Torres until officials arrived.
Deputies confirmed that the individual was Joseph Torres and took him into custody.
