Sofa surprise: Roommates find $41K in cushions and then...

NEW YORK (CNN/CBS) -- Three New York roommates looking for a comfy second-hand couch landed a lot more than they anticipated. That's because unbeknownst to them, the cushions of the sofa were hiding quite the surprise.

Inside an envelope in the cushions, there was an inch-and-a-half thick wad of $100 bills -- a total of $41,000 in cash.

But instead of immediately pocketing the money, the roommates noticed the envelope had a name on it. So they tracked down the owner and returned all of the money.

It turns out, the money was one woman's life savings. She was so grateful, she gave the roommates $1,000 as a reward.
