Dog alerts Town of Jackson homeowners of garage fire

TOWN OF JACKSON (WITI) -- Crews responded to the scene of a fire on Jackson Drive in the Town of Jackson early Monday morning, May 19th.

According to officials, the Washington County Sheriff's Office was notified around 12:33 a.m. by the homeowners -- who were awoken by their dog.

The four people inside were able to quickly evacuate the residence.

The first arriving deputy found that the garage portion of the two-story, single-family residence was completely engulfed in flames.

The Jackson Fire Department responded to the scene and were assisted by the Fillmore, Germantown, Newburg, Richfield and Slinger Fire Departments.

They were able to quickly gain control of the blaze and prevented the fire from spreading throughout the living portion of the residence.

The garage, which was attached to the residence, is considered a total loss as well as the mud room that was attached.

The rest of the house suffered smoke damage as a result.

The fire remains under investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say there were no working smoke detectors inside the residence at that time of the fire. The American Red Cross responded to the scene to assist the family.

Jackson Drive was shut down for approximately three hours.

There were no major injuries as a result of this incident.
