From the ground up: Young people build a home on Milwaukee's south side

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Some young people are taking steps to transform Milwaukee's neighborhoods.

The group of young people built a home from the ground up on an open lot on the city's south side.

It is all part of the Milwaukee Christian Center's YouthBuild Program.

It is a program that is supported through the city. It teaches young people construction skills to help them get a job.

"That's all part of what we are trying to do here is create a livable city where babies can cry and where our neighbors can flourish and where home values can rise," Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said.

The home on the south side is the 12th home that YouthBuild has created and sold.
