BUSTED: Woman accused of driving drunk, allegedly bit trooper

RACINE CO. (WITI) -- 45-year-old Rhenae Thompson of Milwaukee faces multiple charges for allegedly biting a Wisconsin State Patrol trooper following a traffic stop.

The charges leveled against Thompson include battery of a peace officer, resisting an officer, disorderly conduct and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated with a child, operating while revoked and three counts of misdemeanor bail jumping.

According to the criminal complaint, a trooper pulled Thompson over around 10:30 p.m. on May 25th near I-94 and Seven Mile Rd. The trooper was notified about Thompson after an off-duty Wind Point police officer noticed Thompson was driving "erratically."

When the trooper pulled Thompson over, the complaint indicates he saw two children in the back seat of the car. They were Thompson's 12-year-old daughter and five-year-old granddaughter. The trooper also smelled "the odor of intoxicants" on Thompson's breath.

The complaint says Thompson was "fumbling over words and had slurred speech." Later, she admitted she "had a few drinks."

The trooper then performed sobriety tests on Thompson -- and the complaint indicates she failed those tests. She was then arrested for OWI and transported for a blood test.

Once at All Saints Hospital for a legal blood draw, the trooper indicated he was filling out his paperwork for the blood draw, when "the defendant got out of her chair and opened the door of the lab room yelling for ice." After she got ice chips, Thompson "was calm for about a minute before beginning to yell again."

The complaint says "the defendant then tried to leave the lab room, but she was escorted back to the chair, and again indicated that she would not consent to a draw of her blood." Thompson then allegedly threw the ice and then "attempted to throw a punch" at the trooper. "At one point during this, the defendant turned her head and bit (the trooper), who was in full police uniform, on the left hand, and photographs indicate that said bite resulted in a visible injury to that hand." The trooper with the help of the security guard was eventually able to get her handcuffed behind her back and under control.

If convicted, Thompson faces up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
