Surprising twist: 12-year-old girl stabbed, two others go missing

WAUKESHA (WITI) -- A 12-year-old girl gets stabbed in Waukesha and two other girls go missing. Police spent hours searching a wooded area for a suspect, but who were they really looking for?

On Saturday, May 31, at approximately 9:50 a.m. the Waukesha Police Department was notified by a concerned passerby that a 12-year-old girl was stabbed in the area of Big Bend road.

Cindy Hosszu heard police on a loud-speaker. They were sending in the dogs.

"It's pretty scary," said Hosszu.

Officials say the Waukesha Police and Fire Department responded and located the girl. She was then transported to Waukesha Memorial Hospital.

Down the street, neighbor John Heibler looked up, and saw a search from above. Neighbors weren't sure who police were looking for, but as it turns out, two other neighborhood girls were missing.

Officials say the Waukesha Police Department, Waukesha Sheriff’s Department, New Berlin Police, Town of Brookfield Police and Flight for Life searched the woods to the south and east of Big Bend road.  They were looking for evidence and suspects in the stabbing.

Almost five hours after the search began, police say, two missing girls were found across town at a furniture store on highway 94.

The girls have been taken into police custody, and the search has ended.

The victim was treated for her injuries and is in stable condition. Police are not releasing any names or other information at this time.
