Expanding the project: Zimmerman mulling adding to plans for baseball stadium

OAK CREEK (WITI) -- Plans for a Frontier League baseball stadium in Oak Creek may expand to include a connected Major League Soccer complex and a sports dome for indoor training and events.

The Milwaukee Business Journal says Mark Zimmerman, the owner of the Milwaukee Wave and founder of The Rock Sports Complex is reportedly in discussion with Oak Creek officials to get public financing for the development.

The Business Journal says first and foremost, it would provide $10.5 million for a Frontier League baseball stadium for a franchise he plans to establish in the Milwaukee area.

Zimmerman is eying a 62-acre property at the southwest corner of East College and South Pennsylvania avenues in Oak Creek for the project. He also is exploring other options in Oak Creek with the city to see if the stadium can be built closer to Drexel Town Square.

In April, the Franklin Common Council rejected Zimmerman's plans for a minor league baseball stadium.

That marked the second time Zimmerman's plan was rejected in Franklin.
