Above & beyond: District Two officers commended for efforts with suicidal teen

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police officers from District Two are being commended for their efforts in preventing a teen from injuring himself and others.

Police say the mother of a 15-year-old boy called police on June 2nd.

Police responded to the area of S. 20th Street and W. Mitchell Street because the teen, who had returned from the Milwaukee County Mental Health Complex earlier in the day, was being disruptive in the house.

Police say when officers arrived, the 15-year-old armed himself with a large knife in the kitchen and threatened to kill himself.

The officers began negotiations and one of the officers built a rapport with the teen since he dealt with him the week prior on another suicidal threat call.

After talking with the boy for about 20 minutes, the teen agreed to drop the knife and was taken into custody without incident.

The officers from District Two displayed great patience and concern for a juvenile suffering an emotional crisis and prevented the teen from harming himself and others.
