Could ground soon be broken on project that would bring Von Maur to Wisconsin?

BROOKFIELD (WITI) -- Three years after The Corners of Brookfield project was announced -- ground may soon be broken, according to the Milwaukee Business Journal.

The Business Journal reports developer The Marcus Corp. has submitted some of the paperwork to tear down the vacant West Point Cinema on the property.

Planned for the property is a mixed-use, Von Maur-anchored retail project proposed on Bluemound Road near Barker Road.

The Business Journal reports Gary Lake, building inspector and zoning instructor for the town of Brookfield, said he can issue a demolition permit in a day or two once he receives the rest of the paperwork.

The Business Journal says Marcus hasn't submitted plans for demolishing the rest of the buildings -- including a vacant Menards.

Marcus Corp. announced the $125 million project in March of 2011.

It is expected to include 240,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, 150 apartments and a 140,000-square-foot Von Maur department store.
