(CNN) — Has Slenderman struck again? There’s been a second stabbing incident linked to Slenderman — this one occurring last week in Ohio.
An Ohio mother says her daughter’s writings have always been dark.
The reference demons, being insane and falling into darkness.
However, the 13-year-old girl’s mother never imagined her daughter would want to become one of the characters she frequently referenced.
“I came home one night from work and she was in the kitchen waiting for me and she was wearing a mask, a white mask. She had her hood up and had her hands covered with her sleeves and the mask,” the girl’s mother said.
She also had a knife — and began attacking her mother — right there in the kitchen.
“Mentioned playing a role — got the feeling she was playing a role. It didn’t feel like her at all,” the girl’s mother said.
Now, after hearing about the two Wisconsin 12-year-old girls accused of stabbing their friend 19 times because they wanted to please Slenderman, the Ohio mom thinks the fictional horror character also had an influence on her daughter.
“We found things she had written and she made reference to Slenderman. She also made references to killing. She had even created a world for Slenderman in MineCraft — in the game MineCraft,” the Ohio girl’s mother said.
Stories of Slenderman often feature him stalking or traumatizing people.
But in the Ohio case and in the Wisconsin case, fantasy turned into reality — and the Ohio mother says it should be a wakeup call for all parents.
“We do have to police what they do and what they read,” the Ohio mother said.

“There’s been a second stabbing incident linked to Slenderman”. That is inaccurate. No real-life actions are linked to make believe.

If the mother noticed she was involved in “dark writing” she should have taken that as a warning sign. Parents need to be aware of red flags.

I completely agree. Its almost common sense.

Yeah, and WHY didn’t this mother pay closer attention to her child knowing her writings were dark and get her into therapy….now THAT’S an ignorant mother!!

“We do have to police what they do and what they read,” The fact that this mother would say this is stupid. Everyone has the right to look and read what they want on the internet. She most likely said this to cover herself in to not looking like the bad parent she was. Like everyone before me said the “dark writings” and such should have been a red flag for visiting the therapist.

I would like to know…. if policing what our children do is not acceptable…. how we can be considered a good parent and what course of action we are allowed to take in order to prevent children from being affected.
I’m sorry, a therapist isn’t necessary. Policing doesn’t always mean restriction, it just means opening communication about what a child is engaged in. Sometimes it means restriction if you see a link between the content and the child’s actions.
A parent should be a filter for their children. Children are not equipped to filter content like adults are.
If you want to live in a society where everything is free, but therapy is required when attitude goes dark, go lookup Psycho Pass and see what that society really is like. Nothing is ever really free.

just because the girl mentioned slenderman in her stories, this wasnt something involving slenderman. slenderman has never been “known” to have children use weapons or wear masks. it sounds more line a variation of the Jane the Killer story, from the Jeff the Killer archtype. Jane was given a mask, jeff wears a hoodie, and they use knives. as for the two that stabbed their friend, the only story that had any kind of sacrifice was a non canon slender documentary video made for fun by some college students. im not saying that these stories cant have a bad influence on young children, but they shouldnt be able to read forums anyway in my opinion. there is all kinds of suggestive language and topics on them. the parents should be watching what they are doing on the internet. i just get pissed when sources are blamed for things when it is really the people who should be limiting what their children can see in the first place. and they dont even do any research into what the stories even say. sacrifices? come on now, thats nowhere to be found..
what on earth
As a goon who posted in the SA thread where the character was invented (it was a thread for making spooky photoshop pics in like 2009 if I remember right), is it wrong that I find the sheer stupidity of killing someone to impress a (honestly kinda lame) 5 year-old fictional Internet character – from a photoshop thread of all things – who only became semi-popular because of a youtube series and some (honestly pretty shitty) indie games kinda funny? I’m not trying to be disrespectful to the victims – obviously this is a terrible tragedy – it’s just that it’s literally, bar none, the absolute dumbest reason I can even conceive of to kill someone. It’s honestly on the level of killing someone because you thought Invader Zim would marry you if you helped clear the way for him to take over the world (I’ve never watched that show, isn’t he trying to take over the world or something?)
