"We are looking for a miracle:" Family decides NOT to pull Sierra Guyton from life support

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A fundraiser has been planned for this weekend to help Sierra Guyton's family with mounting medical bills. This, as FOX6 News has learned there was a discussion late last week about pulling Guyton from life support.

"We're praying to God daily," Pastor Darnell Turner.

Pastor Turner, with Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church is friends with Sierra Guyton's aunt.

"We are looking for a miracle. We are praying for the best," Pastor Turner said.

On May 21st -- a beautiful, spring day, a gun battle broke out near 28th and Clarke.

Sierra Guyton was playing on a playground in the area when she was caught in the crossfire.

The little girl was shot in the head -- and has been clinging to life in the hospital ever since.

"As a result of this gun violence, her life has been changed forever. It's devastating," Pastor Turner said.

Late last week, the family spoke with doctors about Sierra Guyton's condition. Her grandmother tells FOX6 News the bullets took Sierra's sight.

She is no longer on pain medication, but she cannot eat or breathe by herself.

Last week, doctors and the family talked about taking Sierra off life-support, but the family chose to continue her care.

The little girl's family is hopeful they will somehow find a miracle that will allow Sierra Guyton to survive and thrive.

"It has just robbed this baby of her future," Pastor Turner said.

Turner is organizing a fundraiser for the family set to occur this Saturday, June 14th.

There will be a barbecue at the church -- and the event will raise money to assist the family with mounting medical bills.

"Hundreds of thousands. Hospital stays -- they're not cheap. All the proceeds that will be raised will go directly to this family," Pastor Turner said.

The little girl's grandmother says if she is able to leave the hospital one day, she will require 24-hour supervision.

"We want to keep that family in prayer -- but ultimately, God has the last say," Pastor Turner said.

18-year-old Sylvester Lewis and 28-year-old Jamey Jackson are charged in the case.

Lewis faces one count of first degree reckless injury, one count of first degree recklessly endangering safety and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.

Jackson faces one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.

Lewis and Jackson are due back in court on June 19th.
