Three injured after 'erratic' motorist collides head-on with pickup truck

WEST BEND (WITI) -- Three people were injured following a head-on collision near the intersection of Main Street and Church Street in West Bend on Thursday night, June 12th.

According to officials, the West Bend Police Department received a report of an erratic motorist  on E. Washington Street near S. River Road around 7:26 p.m.

The caller was able to provide the registration displayed on the suspect vehicle.  This information was passed along to the Sheriff’s Dispatch Center when the vehicle was not able to be located, since the registered owner’s address was in Allenton (Town of Addison).

Around 7:52 p.m., a Sheriff's deputy located the suspect vehicle while traveling westbound on Highway 33 at a high rate of speed.. The deputy proceeded westbound, but lost sight of the suspect vehicle.

At that time, the deputy proceeded to Allenton, and located the suspect vehicle after it had just been involved in a head-on collision with a eastbound pickup truck near the intersection of Main Street and Church Street. The deputy reported that the engine compartment of the suspect vehicle was partially ablaze.

The deputy cut the seat belts of the driver and passenger of the suspect vehicle, and was assisted by some bystanders in removing them from the vehicle.

The driver and passenger of the suspect vehicle were transported via ambulance to St. Joseph’s Hospital for serious injuries.  The driver of the suspect vehicle was then transferred to Froedtert Hospital via Flight for Life.  The driver and sole occupant of the eastbound pickup truck was transported via ambulance to Aurora Medical Center in Hartford for minor injuries.

Alcohol and speed appear to be factors in the crash, but no other information is being released at this time.
