Emergency personnel called to water rescue, boat over turned

KENOSHA (WITI) --A scary moment off of Simmons Island in Lake Michigan when the Coast Guard, Kenosha Police, the Kenosha Fire Department, and the Pleasant Prairie Fire Department, helped out in a water rescue Friday evening, June 20th.

Police say a 911 call came in around 5:30 p.m. for a for a 15-foot sailboat that had overturned.

When rescue personnel arrived, the Coast Guard pulled a man in his twenties out of the water.  Officials say the other passenger, who was also the boat owner, hung onto the overturned boat until it drifted to shore. He also needed assisted by the Coast Guard.

The boat owner is believed to be middle-aged between late forties and early fifties.

The police sergeant said the conditions on the lake were foggy and the water was choppy when the boat overturned. Both men were wearing life jackets.

The victims were both taken to the hospital as precautionary measures. Police consider the incident a pretty cut and dry rescue.
