Police: Glendale father shoots his sons; 20-year-old man is dead, 15-year-old boy is hospitalized

GLENDALE (WITI) -- Glendale police say a man shot his two sons on Thursday afternoon, June 26th. One of them is dead -- and the second is being treated at Children's Hospital.

FOX6 News has learned through friends and former coaches that the brothers are 20-year-old Robert Washington and 15-year-old Wesley Washington.

Robert Washington was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wesley Washington is at Children's Hospital.

Police say an argument led to the shooting outside the family's home on Theresa Lane in Glendale on Thursday afternoon.

Police say the suspect -- the father of the victims, is in custody.

The call came in around 2:00 p.m.

It is practically impossible for strangers -- let alone relatives to believe that a father would shoot his own sons.

But Glendale police say that's what happened on Thursday afternoon.

When officers arrived, they found the 15-year-old attending to the 20-year-old victim.

"We found the victims together, one attending to the other. At that point, one of our officers tried to perform CPR on the one victim that seemed to be a life-threatening situation at that point. That person did pass," Joel Dhein with the Glendale Police Department said.

Officers pulled the 20-year-old to the driveway of a neighboring home before administering first aid because they did not know where the shooter was.

Police say the shooter later surrendered without incident at the home.

Faith Moore says she used to live across the street from the family. She considered Robert Washington a good friend.

"Robert had these little pretty eyes and he had one of the best personalities -- a very bubbly personality and very outspoken, always knew how to make people laugh. He was the life of the party," Moore said.

Moore says under no circumstances did she think something like this was possible.

Police say it's unclear what caused the dispute that led to the shooting.

One neighbor says the only yelling she heard was after the shooting.

"I was in the house and I heard two gunshots just a few seconds apart and then I heard some yelling. Then I heard someone call for help then I heard the sirens and police came," the neighbor said.

A short time later, police and paramedics escorted a man in handcuffs to an ambulance.

Friends have identified him as the father -- and now, a murder suspect.

It's a devastating sight for those who rushed to the scene, and a crushing loss for those who considered the 20-year-old Nicolet High School graduate a friend.

"I just talked to Robert last week and he was telling me how his plans were to transfer to UWM and how he was glad we still kept in touch," Moore said.

Police say Wesley Washington is in stable condition at Children's Hospital.
