30th Annual Breakfast on The Farm: Thousands flock for buttery pancakes & cheesy eggs

OZAUKEE Co. (WITI) -- Who doesn't like a hearty pancake breakfast complete with eggs and ham? Well, if that's up your alley, Ozaukee County's 30th Annual Breakfast on The Farm was the place to be -- and this year was bigger and better than ever.

On Gasser Farm you'll find 300 cows and three very hard-working brothers.

"We do all of it from planting, to rock picking, to feeding calves," said Luke Gasser, Gasser Family Farm.

Gasser and his brothers are third generation farmers. They're used to being around a lot of animals, but today, they were around a lot of people too. Nearly 4,000 people came to the farm to eat breakfast.

"I like to see other kids enjoy it. Farming seems to be a dying trend and we`re trying to keep it alive," said Gasser.

The brothers do that with the help of Jean Optiz and this event -- Breakfast on The Farm.

"Our most important thing is that we want to stress that your food comes from a farm and hard-working people and not a grocery store," said Jean Opitz, breakfast chairperson.

And once on the other side, you're greeted with the delicious smells of homemade pancakes, oozing with butter.

Attendee Cal Gilbertson plans to set an eating record.

"Ummm, 3 million," said Gilbertson.

Goodluck! But save room for the free ice cream, or the cheesy scrambled eggs and ham served by Governor Scott Walker.

"Both my parents and my wife`s parents grew up on farms. We haven`t done it much but it`s good to get the kids out here to experience it and see what it`s all about," said Gilbertson.

All around, the event is a family fun festival.

All of the proceeds from the breakfast stay in Ozaukee Co. and go towards agriculture scholarships and promotions throughout the year.
