12-year-old allegedly sets fire to garage because he was mad at owner

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police arrested a 12-year-old boy for allegedly starting a garage on fire on the city's northwest side.

Police say the suspect entered the victim’s garage on W. Herbert Avenue just after 2:30 p.m. on Monday, July 7th. Officials say he poured an accelerant on items in the garage and then used a lighter to ignite the fire.

The fire was so intense that it melted the siding on a house next to the garage.

Officials say the boy ran away from the scene but was located and arrested by police a short time later. Police say the boy confessed to the crime and told officers he set the garage on fire because he was mad at the owner.

The case will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
