Storm damage: Gov. Walker requests disaster declaration in Grant County

MADISON (AP) — Gov. Scott Walker is asking for a disaster declaration for Grant County due to storm and tornado damage from last month.

Walker on Wednesday made the request to the U.S. Small Business Administration. If granted, low interest loans would be available to businesses and individuals affected by the storms.

In addition to Grant County, the contiguous counties of Crawford, Iowa, Lafayette, and Richland would also be eligible.

Damage came from a series of storms that hit the area on June 16. Walker's office said the SBA did an initial damage assessment and determined that more than 25 homes and businesses sustained significant damage and uninsured losses in excess of 40 percent in Grant County.

Walker's office says the damage was not enough to seek a Federal Emergency Management Agency declaration.
