It's been over a year since a fire closed the Courthouse, and the cause remains unknown

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- It has been a little over a year since a fire shut down the Milwaukee County Courthouse.

The courts were closed, offices had to be moved and workers had to endure hot buildings.

It took months to make all the necessary repairs.

10th Street wasn't reopened until April.

On Thursday, July 10th, Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele said if you didn't know there had been a fire -- you might never guess.

Abele says insurance is picking up the cost.

"We've agreed on a number with the insurance fund -- the state insurance fund that they and we agree covers the whole cost," Abele said.

As workers repaired the damage caused by the fire, they also found building code violations that needed to be repaired.

There is still no word on what caused the fire.
