Sheboygan police: Man injured following crash near 17th & River Park Road

SHEBOYGAN (WITI) -- The Sheboygan Fire Department responded to the area of 17th and River Park Road early Friday morning, July 11th for the report of a vehicle in a tree near the river. Sheboygan police also responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, officials located a an unoccupied vehicle in some trees and brush along the river bank.  Authorities say the trees prevented the vehicle from entering the water.

The Sheboygan Fire Department says the vehicle was sitting at a 45-degree angle, leaning towards the river on the drivers’ side.  A power pole and electrical wires were also found to be on the ground.

A search for the driver commenced along the river bank, and in the water, by fire and police personnel.

During the search, authorities located a man on shore near the river, with significant injuries.

Flight for Life was requested to respond.

Fire department personnel used chain saws to remove trees and other growth, in order to gain access to the victim.

The victim was removed from the scene and transported to St. Nicholas Hospital and subsequently flown by medical helicopter to Theda Clark Medical Center.

The victim's condition is unknown at this time.

There was a report that there may have been a second passenger in the vehicle. A search of the area, both on land and in the water, was undertaken by the Sheboygan Fire Department, Sheboygan Police Department, Sheboygan County Dive Team, and the Sheboygan County Dive Support Team.

The presence of a second passenger in the vehicle was unable to be confirmed. No additional victims were located.
