Manitowoc police warn of unusually strong heroin making its way to the streets

MANITOWOC, Wis. (AP) — Manitowoc police are warning that an unusually powerful batch of heroin may have made its way to the streets.

A News-Herald Media report (http://htrne.ws/U0n42o ) says two drug overdoses were reported in a 12-hour period. Both users survived, but police say each would have died without the quick actions of emergency responders.

Police Capt. Scott Luchertand says officers want to warn drug users who bought heroin in the past week to be even more cautious than usual.

He says the police department doesn't condone the use of illegal drugs, but under the circumstances, there's an obligation to warn citizens.

The first overdose was reported Thursday about 9:30 a.m. A 34-year-old man was found overdosing, and detectives found heroin nearby.

A second call involving a 20-year-old man came in about 8:30 p.m.
