Milwaukee Fire Department responds to building fire, detects gas

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee Fire Department responded to a small fire in between two floors at a building on Historic Mitchell Street on Saturday, July 12th.

The fire department says the fire was between the first and second floor of a two-story, multi-unit building. Firemen extinguished the fire and detected the smell of gas coming from down the street.

Firemen went to a building at 6th and Mitchell, where a car had struck a main, and evacuated that building. We Energies then shut down the main.

The fire department says there were no injuries, but could not release information about damages or resident displacements.
