Sierra Guyton has died nearly two months after being shot on playground

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- FOX6 News has learned from Bridgette Perry, Sierra Guyton's grandmother, that Sierra has died. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office indicated Guyton was pronounced dead at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin at 1:35 a.m. on Sunday, July 13th.

On May 21st, 10-year-old girl Sierra Guyton was at the Clarke Street playground, just across the street from her house. She was caught in-between, as two men allegedly engaged gunfire, and was shot and wounded.

In a conversation with FOX6's Ashley Sears on Sunday morning, July 13th, Perry said, "I never thought I would have to bury my granddaughter." She also said, "Please don't let her be forgotten."

Perry told FOX6 News of the shooting and its consequences, "We've got to put a stop to this." She added, "Our city is becoming scary."

Perry says Sierra took a turn for the worse when she began rejecting her feeding tube. Her organs began to shut down. She says Sierra was at peace in the end.

Pastor Darnell Turner of Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church has been close to the Guyton family since Sierra was shot.

"It could take a turn for the worst at any time, but you just don`t expect the outcome," says Turner.

Turner believes something positive must come from this tragedy.

"Learn from this and come together as a community, neighborhood, families," says Turner.

An autopsy on Guyton is scheduled for Monday morning.

It's expected that charges will increase against gunmen, Sylvester Lewis and Jamey Jackson, in wake of Sierra's death.

The Guyton family says they did not have a life-insurance policy for Sierra. They're asking for donations at US Bank locations to cover funeral expenses.
