Arrested: Brookfield woman taken into custody after striking Sheriff's squad on I-94

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials say a Sheriff's deputy's squad car was struck and the deputy was injured early Saturday morning, July 12th.

It happened around 5:00 a.m. Saturday on westbound I-94 just east of Highway 100.

Sheriff's officials say the squad was stopped at the scene of the crash -- and had its lights activated. The Sheriff's deputy was seated in the squad car.

Sheriff's officials say another motorist, suspected of being intoxicated, approached the scene at a high rate of speed and struck the squad.

The deputy was taken to Froedtert Hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the striking vehicle complained of minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Sheriff's officials say the driver is a 20-year-old Brookfield woman.

State Patrol officials arrested the woman, who subsequently tested .17 in a preliminary breath test, for OWI, first offense, causing injury.

She faces up to one year in prison if convicted.
