"I'm really hyped up!" Thousands fill Miller Park Wednesday evening not for baseball...for soccer!

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Wednesday, July 16th was an historic day for Milwaukee's Miller Park! The first international soccer match was played on what is normally a baseball field, after crews spent 48 hours transforming the field to prepare it for the international soccer match pitting a team from Wales against a team from Guadalajara.

Thousands filled Miller Park on Wednesday evening -- and soccer fans tailgate just like baseball fans do -- just perhaps, a bit more intensely.

It's a place where balls, strikes and bats are common, but for one night, Miller Park was turned on its head.

"It's not a baseball game, so we don't know what to expect!" one soccer fan said.

There was a sea of red and white in the parking lot -- the colors belonging to Chivas de Guadalajara, and men in Luchador masks belonging to the intense fandom that follows the team.

What wasn't tattooed on supporters backs could be found shaved into their heads.

"Why Chivas? Because they're the best team ever," another soccer fan said.

Swansea City fans were tougher to find -- but Anisa Dauti and her family were on hand to cheer them on.

"First live game of professional soccer so I'm  really hyped up," Dauti said.

It was an international match up of soccer players where you'd normally find Major League baseball players -- a first for Miller Park and perhaps, not for the last time.

"I think people are going to expand their horizons this evening. I think it helps Milwaukee's image and I hope we continue to have soccer at Miller Park," a soccer fan said.
