Police: One in custody after likely drug-related robbery, officers shoot and kill "charging" pit bull

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police say one person is in custody, and a pit bull is dead after officers responded to what police say is likely a drug-related armed robbery on Wednesday morning, July 30th.

Police were called out to the scene around 7:15 a.m.

It happened in the 3600 block of N. 26th Street.

Officers were initially called to the scene for a report of men with guns in the area. When officers arrived on scene, they were directed to a home where the suspects were seen entering.

As the officers approached the home -- police say several individuals exited the home and fled into an alley nearby.

Police say that's when a pit bull ran out of the home, and charged approaching officers.

As this was happening, officers heard the sound of gunshots coming from the alley.

Police officers shot the pit bull -- killing it, and quickly ran to the alley, where they located a 23-year-old man hiding in some bushes.

Police recovered a handgun in the rear yard of another home.

Police say this remains a very active investigation -- and say they are seeking additional suspects.
