"Ever since I was a kid, this is all I cared about:" Ryan Eversley to race at Elkhart Lake's Road America

ELKHART LAKE (WITI) -- The race track known as Road America in Elkhart Lake is unique and exciting for the many different drivers that navigate the course. Like the track, with its twists and turns, some of those drivers are unique and exciting. One of them is Ryan Eversley.

"Ever since I was a kid, this is all I cared about," Eversley said.

Growing up in Atlanta, Eversley had one goal for as long as he can remember.

"All I cared about is being one of those guys -- one of those great racers. All I watched was Formula One, IndyCar and sports car racing. I knew like one NASCAR driver and that was Dale Earnhardt. He was the greatest NASCAR driver I ever heard of" Eversley said.

Ever since he was born, racing seemed to be in Eversley's genes.

"My dad was a racing engineer and team manager when I was, well before I was born, so I kind of followed in his footsteps as a mechanic. Then I was very lucky. I convinced someone I knew how to drive, even though I didn't. And they hired me to drive for them," Eversley said.

On August 9th, Eversley will take his talents in sports car racing to Road America.

"It's a very fast track. It's very intimidating," Eversley said.

It is the speed that grabbed hold of Eversley when he was young, and it still has a tight grasp on him -- much like it did on Will Ferrell's character in Talladega Nights.

"I love going fast, like Ricky Bobby said, right?" Eversley said.

One of the reasons he likes racing at Road America is that speed will be on display for the fans that line the track all the way to the checkered flag.

"You want to see, you know, a really tight knife fight for the wins. So that's one of the things Elkhart Lake is known for," Eversley said.

Besides being a competitor, Eversley is know for his openness with fans -- something he cherishes.

"My fan base has grown exponentially because of like social media -- Twitter, Instagram and things like that," Eversley said.

Eversley never misses an opportunity to interact with his fans.

"I've made a pact to never not respond to a question on Twitter to anyone that follows me," Eversley said.

It's not limited to social media. Eversley will talk with anyone, at any time.

"When I can have a conversation with a guy about his street car that's just like my race car for 20 minutes and shake hands and say 'see you later.' Then I get a note from him two days later on Twitter -- I think, 'how cool is that?'" Eversley said.

Twitter is where Eversley reaches most of his fans, and he loves it.

"If you're on Twitter, follow me and I'll definitely talk to you. It doesn't have to be about racing. I'll talk to you about anything," Eversley said.

Eversley says he's hoping that while he's in Wisconsin, he'll also be able to talk about winning his race.

"It's definitely one of those tracks that separates the men from the boys, so we love coming here just for the sheer speed of the place," Eversley said.

You can see Eversley race in the Continental Sports Car Challenge on Saturday, August 9th. There will be all kinds of racing that weekend at Road America.
