A family searching for answers; no leads in year-old murder

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A Milwaukee family is still looking for answers a year after their loved one was shot and killed.

August 2nd is the one-year anniversary of the shooting that eventually led to 25-year-old Eric Benson's death. He was shot six times in the 4100 block of 50th and Hope Avenue.

He died five days later at the hospital -- as a result of injuries suffered during the shooting.

No arrests have been made, and no leads have been presented. Now his family is pleading for information.

"Just thinking about him, on my mind daily," said Betty Benson, Eric's mother. "I haven't had any rest. I can't even function."

Benson left behind a fiance and a young daughter. Emonee is nearly two years old.

"Every day we have to give her pictures," said Benson's fiance, Symone Bankhead. "I have to hear her cry for him day-to-day."

No one knows why Benson was targeted.

"He didn't get into trouble. He didn't live the street life," said Betty Benson.

The family is hoping someone who may know something will speak up and help them find closure.

"I just want somebody to come forward and say something," said Bankhead.

There is a $3,000 reward for information in the case.

If you have information that could help bring Benson's killer to justice, you're asked to call 414-935-7411. Tips can be left anonymously.

Benson's family held a march in his honor on Sunday, August 3rd.
