He's won the nomination for his old seat: Van Wanggaard defeats Jonathan Steitz in 21st Senate District race

MADISON (AP) — Former state Sen. Van Wanggaard has won the Republican nomination for his old seat in southeastern Wisconsin's 21st Senate District.

Wanggaard defeated tax adviser Jonathan Steitz of Pleasant Prairie.

Wanggaard, of Racine, will face Democrat Randy Bryce, a Racine ironworker, in the Nov. 4 general election.

Democrat John Lehman took the seat from Wanggaard in a 2012 recall election fought over Gov. Scott Walker's union law. Lehman decided to leave the Senate to run for lieutenant governor this fall, leaving the district up for grabs.
