Three people injured: Coast Guard responds to "boat in distress" in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police and the U.S. Coast Guard were called out to a report of a "boat in distress" on Thursday night, August 14th.

The call came in around 9:30 p.m. -- and this was occurring near Milwaukee's lakefront, in an area off-shore from the War Memorial and the Milwaukee Art Museum.

The four occupants of a 25-foot cabin cruiser were located and transported to McKinley Marina by the coast guard.

Three of the occupants, a 90-year-old male and two males in their 60's were transported to a local hospital for treatment of non life threatening injuries.

The operator of the vessel will be tested for his blood alcohol content as is standard practice in accidents of this type.

Milwaukee police say the boat had collided with the outer break wall just east of the War Memorial. What caused the boat to strike the break wall is unclear at this time.

The Coast Guard is investigating this incident -- and working to take possession of the boat.
