Police pull over a suspected drunk driver, find who behind the wheel?

MANITOWOC (WITI/AP) — Police say an officer making a traffic stop in eastern Wisconsin found an intoxicated driver behind the wheel — and she was just 13 years old!

Police stopped the vehicle around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, August 13th after observing it without its headlights activated in the 2000 block of Marshall Street.

A traffic stop was initiated, and the vehicle finally pulled over several blocks later.

Police say a Drug Recognition Expert observed the driver appeared to be impaired. The 13-year-old driver failed standard field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for OWI.

An investigation revealed she is just 13 years old -- and from Manitowoc.

She was released to her mother.

Police say five other juveniles, 14 and under, were along for the ride. One of them had been reported as a runaway by his mother earlier Wednesday evening. He was returned to her.

Another juvenile in the car had an active apprehension request from the Department of Human Services. He was temporarily released to a relative.

A third juvenile in the car had an active temporary physical custody order on him from Sheboygan County. He was transported to the Sheboygan Juvenile Detention Center.

Police say the 13-year-old driver faces charges of OWI with passengers less than 16 years of age.

The girl had apparently taken her mother's vehicle without her mother's knowledge.
