Ready, aim, Fiers; Brewers win 6-2

CHICAGO-- Mike Fiers isn't the fastest pitcher in the business, but he made quick work of the Cubs on Thursday afternoon.  The righthander struck out 14 batters in only six innings of work in a 6-2 Brewers victory.  Fiers became only the fourth pitcher in franchise history to strike out 14 or more batters in a game, and only a half dozen Chicago batters put the ball in play against him.

Khris Davis hit his 20th homer of the season, which tied for the team lead at the time.  Mark Reynolds later hit his 21 homer of the season to break that tie.

Pittsburgh lost on Thursday, but the Cardinals won.  Therefore, Milwaukee leads the NL Central Division by 2 games over the Cardinals and 2 1/2 games over the Pirates.
