Drivers take note: Bridge on US 41/45 to be rebuilt, could effect commute

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will begin a $4 million reconstruction project of US 41/45 at the Menomonee River Bridge in the Village of Germantown in Washington County, starting on the evening of August 18th.  The reason?  The existing bridges and roadway were built in 1952 and have reached the end of their service life.

The project is set to be completed in four stages to allow for three lanes of traffic in each direction of the freeway during daily peak hours of travel.

Although there may be temporary lane closures in the area during off-peak hours, the freeway will remain open to traffic at all times and a detour route will not be needed.

During the week of August 18th, crews will be working at night as to not interrupt traffic, while workers prepare for construction of a temporary median.

Beginning August 25th, operations will primarily take place during the day.  Demolition of the existing bridges is scheduled to begin in September.

The project is set to be complete in June.
