"This is what we do!" Kohl's teams up with Children's Hospital to overhaul "Robyn's Nest"

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A program called "Robyn`s Nest" provides basic necessities to families involved in children`s community services counseling and foster care programs. It's growing, but that means some reorganizing and hard work is needed. Friday, it got some help from the "experts".

About 80 Kohl’s associates from over 20 stores in the Milwaukee area volunteered their time at the warehouse in Milwaukee to fold, sort and organize "Robyn's Nest".

“While we're doing it in a little different warehouse versus our Kohl’s Department Stores, this is what we do! We clean up! We sort up! We match up shoes! We hang clothes -- we're sort of experts at this,” said Brad Holtzen, Vice President, and District Manager, of Kohl’s.

Robyn’s Nest gives things like clothing, toiletries, toys and books, to families hosting children in foster care through children's hospital of Wisconsin, as well as families in their community service programs. The items are donated from people in the community.

“This is huge! We have hundreds and hundreds of families coming in every year, that need basic items like clothing and toiletries and all of those things just to ensure their healthy,” said Katie Horrigan, Director of Community Education and Outreach for Children's Hospital. And Horrigan said having it organized when they come in makes it a better experience for those families.

It was also a great experience for the volunteers making that happen.

“So often in the events that we do we don’t get to touch the things we're actually helping out with. So to be able to see the 40 of us this morning, the 40 of us this afternoon, a beginning project and an end project feels great to all of us,” said Holtzen.

This is Kohl's first time working with Robyn's Nest, but it has partnered with Children's Hospital for other projects.
