ADORABLE! Racine Zoo's lion cubs now have names

RACINE (WITI) -- The Racine Zoo is excited to announce the names of its three Transvaal lion cubs born July 7.  The announcement comes during the Zoo’s special Pride of Racine sneak peek event for its nearly 2,000 Zoo members.

All three cubs have names originating from Swahili or Bantu language. The female cub named “Zuri” submitted by Therese Osius means “beautiful.”, the first male cub named “Enzi” submitted by Sarah Breah means “Power,” and the second male cub named “Hodari submitted by Amy Eisenman means “strong.”

There were more than 190 names submitted during the “Name the Cub” contest. The three winners of the “Name the Cub” contest presented by Johnson Bank receive a special prize basket which includes a $100 gift certificate to the Zootique gift shop, a family Zoo membership, a commemorative certificate, photo of the cub they named, and special souvenirs.



The Pride of Racine “Name the Cubs” contest ran August 6 through August 18. Racine Zoo staff has reviewed all submissions and are working with Johnson Bank officials to select the winners. The winners will receive a special prize package provided by the Zoo and Johnson Bank.

The general public can view the lion cubs on exhibit inside the Vanishing Kingdom building 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily starting Saturday, August 23. There is also a “CubCam” set up outside the exhibit for guests to view the cubs when the cubs are off exhibit.
