Driver of overturned bus dies, four others not hurt

BROWN DEER (WITI) -- On Friday, August 22nd around 8:00 p.m., Brown Deer Police Department, River Hills Police Department, and North Shore Fire Department were dispatched to a report of a crash involving a Milwaukee County Transit Bus near Green Bay Rd. and Teutonia Ave.

When crews arrived, it was determined that the bus had gone off the roadway and ended up in a ditch.

The driver of the bus, 57-year-old Robert E. Dowden, of Milwaukee, experienced a medical issue and at some point became unconscious.

Dowden was found by emergency crews not breathing, and did not have a pulse. Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful. Dowden was pronounced dead at the scene.

Four other people were on board the bus. None of them were hurt when the bus rolled in the ditch. FOX6 News is told the passengers had to use a ladder to climb out through the window.

The Milwaukee County Transit System had the bus towed from the scene.
