Fully engulfed: What sparked garage fire that caused up to $250K in damage?

TOWN OF HARTFORD (WITI) -- Washington County Sheriff's officials say a Town of Hartford home is a total loss after a fully engulfed garage fire on Labor Day, Monday, September 1st.

Crews were dispatched to the home on Cedar Street in the Town of Hartford shortly before 7:00 p.m. Monday. A neighbor called 911 -- indicating they thought their neighbor's garage was on fire.

At the scene, fire crews encountered a fully engulfed garage fire -- and Sheriff's officials say the fire was spreading from the garage to the home.

No one was home at the time of the fire, and no one was injured -- including firefighters.

Unfortunately, the family cat died in the fire.

We're told the home had working smoke detectors.

Seven fire departments were called out to the scene -- along with an ambulance.

The Hartford Police Department and Washington County Sheriff's Department assisted at the scene.

Officials say the entire home suffered severe damage, and is believed to be a complete loss. Damage estimates are between $200,000 and $250,000.

The homeowners and their family are being assisted by the American Red Cross -- according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by police, and the Sheriff's Office.
