Attempted armed robbery suspect arrested; police searching for possible getaway driver

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A 25-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested on September 1st following an attempted armed robbery at a Wendy's. Police say the suspect is believed responsible for several other similar crimes.

According to authorities, officers were dispatched to a Wendy’s restaurant at 3050 S. Chase Avenue at about 3:00 p.m. on September 1st.

Employees of the restaurant told officers a suspect came into the building and presented a note demanding money. When the suspect realized the employees had called the police, he fled in a vehicle.

Officers on patrol in the area identified the suspect and took him into custody in the 100 block of E. Gauer Circle.

The suspect, a 25-year-old Milwaukee man, threw a hammer he was carrying shortly before his arrest.

Police are still searching for a possible getaway driver.

As the investigation continued, it was learned that the suspect may have been involved in at least three other similar crimes, including one just a few minutes before the Wendy’s incident at a Subway restaurant at 2110 E. Oklahoma Avenue.

These cases will be presented to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.
