He escaped from a hotel room filled with marijuana: 30-year-old Racine man wanted by police

MOUNT PLEASANT (WITI) -- Mount Pleasant police say one person is in custody, and another person is wanted by police after a large amount of marijuana, with a street value estimated at $14,000 was recovered from a hotel room.

On Tuesday, September 2nd, just before 4:30 p.m., police were called out to the America's Best Value Inn & Suites Hotel on Durand Avenue after employees reported they could detect an odor of marijuana from inside the building.

It was suspected the odor was originating from a second-floor hotel room.

While officers were responding, they were notified by dispatch that the occupants of the hotel room had broken a second-floor window, and had jumped to the ground.

Officers entered the hotel room and discovered a large amount of marijuana. They also seized a large amount of cash from the hotel room.

Witnesses told police they saw two men jump from the second-floor hotel room window -- fleeing the area on foot.

One of those men appeared to have a limp, possibly due to the jump from the window.

Police were able to take a 36-year-old Racine man into custody near the Burger King restaurant on Durand Avenue.

A second man, a 30-year-old Racine man is wanted by police.
