Storms tear through Door County, flash flooding leaves some roads under water

SISTER BAY (AP) — Utility crews are working to restore power to thousands of customers in some top vacation spots in Wisconsin, where strong storms also caused flash flooding.

Wisconsin Public Service Corp. said nearly 50,000 customers were without electricity after storms and high wind toppled trees, utility poles and power lines.

The National Weather Service says rainfall from the storms ranged from 3 to 5 inches over much of northern Wisconsin, further hampering the work of power restoration crews.

About 18,000 customers remained without service at midmorning Friday.

Flash flooding in Door County Friday morning left some roads under water and impassable. The storms also caused significant damage across the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, including the Sailor Lake, Black Lake and Moose Lake campgrounds.
