Alert for drivers: Work to begin soon on WIS 158 in Kenosha

KENOSHA (WITI) -- The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will begin a resurfacing project on WIS 158 from I-94 to WIS 31 in the city of Kenosha. Construction on this approximately two-mile stretch of road is scheduled to begin Monday, September 15th and be completed in late fall.

Built in 1953, with its last rehabilitation in 1983, the current condition of the WIS 158 roadway is deteriorated. This mill and asphalt overlay will prevent the pavement condition from deteriorating to unsafe levels prior to a future reconstruction or larger resurfacing project.

The beam guard along the project has reached the end of its service life. Replacement of the beam guard will help provide a safe condition for vehicles that leave the roadway. Other improvements include replacing traffic signal loops at the 104th Avenue and 68th Avenue intersections, installing new signs, and installing new shoulder and centerline rumble strips on portions of the road.

Traffic impacts/Detours

From I-94 to 104th Avenue, one lane of traffic will remain open in each direction at all times. From 104th to WIS 31 there will be a full overnight closure from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. for 15 nights with shoulder closures during the day.

The posted detour for the full closure (eastbound) is 104th Avenue south to County K, east to WIS 31, and north to WIS 158. Westbound motorists will follow a reverse sequence.

Emergency vehicles will always have access through the construction project.

As always, we ask that drivers are courteous and careful when driving near the work zone.
