It's not yet a reality, but Menominee Tribe looking for employees for proposed Kenosha casino

KENOSHA (WITI) -- Looking for a job? Well -- despite it not yet being a reality, the proposed Kenosha casino is looking for workers!

Just last week, a new website was rolled out for the proposed Kenosha casino. It asks those interested in working for the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino to submit some information.

Officials say this push for potential employees has attracted more than 300 applicants since Friday, September 12th.

The Menominee Indian Tribe wants to turn the old Dairyland Greyhound Park off of I-94 into a Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. Whether that will happen is a decision that will be made by Governor Scott Walker.

"I think that the casino coming to Kenosha is the greatest economic opportunity -- not only in southeastern Wisconsin, but really throughout the state right now," Rep. Tod Ohnstad (D-Kenosha) said.

Governor Walker has five months left before it is expected he will make a decision on the proposed casino -- but that isn't stopping the push for potential employees.

"I think that the fact that they`re actually doing this on the website shows a certain level of optimism on the Menominee part," Rep. Ohnstad said.

The Menominee Tribe predicts the casino project would create 10,000 new jobs. Visitors to the website can register and learn more about opportunities in areas such as hotel and casino management, security, engineering and food service.

The Potawatomi Tribe, which runs the Potawatomi Hotel and Casino in Milwaukee is opposed to the casino opening in Kenosha, and tells FOX6: "This is a PR ploy to hide the fact that this is a project that will be developed and managed by a Florida Indian tribe who will take hundreds of millions of Wisconsin dollars back to Florida."

The Potawatomi Tribe also points out that the website is recruiting for jobs that don't exist.

"Well that`s true -- they don`t exist at this moment, but apparently are optimistic that those jobs are going to come and I certainly am hopeful that those jobs are going to come," Rep. Ohnstad said.

The Menominee Tribe says it will gather all the information submitted online, and if or when the project gets the green light, it will begin to reach out to those interested -- moving forward in the hiring process.

When visiting the new jobs website, prospective Hard Rock team members will gain insight on the positions likely to be available, as well as general background on employee benefits. A brief form on the site allows a visitor to register and choose an area of employment they are most interested in, such as:

The website, hardrockhotels.com/kenosha.htm, is specifically for the Kenosha hotel & casino. It does not include local construction jobs or new positions in the tribal government.

In the future, other websites may be offered to provide guidance to local contractors and vendors interested in participating in construction or providing goods and services to the facility.
