A stinky situation in Door County! DNR responding to large manure spill

TOWN OF BRUSSELS (WITI) -- A spill response team from the Department of Natural Resources has helped contain a large manure spill in Door County in the town of Brussels.

The spill occurred at the Kurt DeGrave farm. Approximately 640,000 gallons of manure spilled from a leak to an above-ground manure pit.

The spill entered a ditch and flowed into nearby Spring Creek. Several DNR staff, including wardens, spill response, groundwater, drinking water and agriculture runoff specialists have been at the scene or responding since the early morning and helped contain the spill to the creek.

No other surface waters have been impacted at this time.

Department staff are also working with state and local health departments and local soil and water conservation officials.
