DEVELOPING: UWM TKE fraternity suspended, police investigating

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- UW-Milwaukee officials have announced the Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) fraternity has been suspended.

FOX6 News learned of the suspension Thursday evening, September 18th.

UW-Milwaukee says the fraternity has been suspended "on an interim basis" as police conduct an investigation.

A UW-Milwaukee spokesman says campus police are investigating allegations of date rape drugs placed in alcoholic drinks at a party at the house on Oakland Avenue last weekend.

We're told the investigation began after officers interviewed individuals who attended the party.

A UW-Milwaukee spokesman says one student has been arrested. It is unclear at this time whether that student is a member of the fraternity. We're told the case has been referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office for potential charges. The details of this student's arrest are unclear at this time.

UW-Milwaukee has issued this statement to FOX6 News:

“We are deeply concerned about these allegations because the safety of our students is our number one priority.  Our police are aggressively pursuing this investigation to determine exactly what happened and who may have been involved.”
