Wisconsin ranked the 13th safest state, so what are the safest suburbs in the Milwaukee area?

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Wisconsin placed 13th overall in a ranking of the safest states in America -- according to Movoto, a real-estate blog.

Movoto has also come out with a list -- ranking Milwaukee and Madison-area suburbs.

So which of these suburbs are the safest?

Here's Movoto's list (with 1 being the safest suburb):

1) City of Muskego
2) Village of Waunakee (Madison area)
3) City of Cedarburg
4) Village of Menomonee Falls
5) City of Mequon
6) Village of Grafton
7) City of Oconomowoc
8) Village of Whitefish Bay
9) City of Franklin
10) City of Port Washington

To create the list, Movoto gathered all of the places in Wisconsin with populations of 10,000 people or more. Then, Motovo consulted the FBI's Uniform Crime Report to collect crime data on each of the places -- including murder, rape, robbery, assault, burglary, theft and vehicle theft.

The crimes were divided into four categories: murders, violent crimes, property crimes, total crimes.

Each suburb was then ranked based on the crime data.
